CCTV images have been released after a man went into a newsagents in Egham and sold the shopkeeper a fake smart phone for £150.

Surrey Police said it was an unusual fraud offence and officers wanted to trace the man shown in the CCTV.

Police said the suspect went into the shop in Pooley Green Road and offered a staff member a new iPhone.

After the sale, the shop attendant in Martins Newsagents found he had been given a dummy phone in a box.

Appealing for information, Det Con Phil Carter said: "This is a very unusual incident where the suspect has conned an unsuspecting member of staff out of a substantial amount of cash."

He said the staff member had asked to look at the phone on the afternoon of Saturday 2 April, and checked it was genuine before agreeing to the sale.

But at some point during the transaction, the genuine phone was replaced with a dummy, he said.
