Copper wire theft disrupt Capel telephones

Lead coated copper wiring worth more than £20,000 has been stolen in Surrey, causing disruption to telephone lines.

About 620m of cable was taken from Horsham Road and The Street, in Capel, on 10 May. About £150 of damage was also caused to a gate.

Police said the theft took place between 0100 and 0200 BST.

Det Con Kerry Whindle said a lorry would have been needed to take away the wiring and anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle should contact officers.
