Tributes to Surrey school hockey player Emma Broad

Tributes are being paid to a young Surrey school hockey player, who died in her sleep on Saturday night.

Emma Broad was a fifth year student at St George's College, Weybridge, where special services were held on Monday for family, friends and pupils.

Emma was a member of the England under-16 hockey squad and scored a goal in a recent match against Germany.

Surrey Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

'Candle burning'

The school was told the news of Emma's death on Monday and flowers and tributes to her were left in the chapel and around the school.

Emma was a member of the team that recently competed in the Easter four nations tournament against Spain, Germany and the Netherlands in Valencia.

The England Hockey Board sent its condolences to Emma's family and friends.

Joe Peake, headmaster of St George's College said: "Today, her examination desk remains empty but a candle burns continuously in Chapel as a symbol of her everlasting life."
