Surrey Heath Olympic Games emergency response exercise

Emergency teams in Surrey Heath have tested out their procedures ahead of next year's Olympic Games.

During the exercise, volunteers pretended to be evacuees after an unexploded bomb had been found in a built-up residential area.

Camberley Theatre was used as a rest centre for staff to provide shelter, care and support.

Police, fire and council staff worked alongside the Red Cross during the tests.

Officers from Surrey Heath Borough Council and Surrey County Council had to deal with people who did not speak English, residents with special dietary needs, and people who were without their prescribed medication and had potential health issues.

Surrey Heath council chief Karen Whelan said there could be thousands more people in the area next year during the London Olympics.
