Elderly woman thrown to ground in Normandy robbery

A robber grabbed an 81-year-old woman around the neck and threw her to the ground before he stole her handbag and ran off.

Surrey Police said the woman was walking from Glaziers Road, Normandy, to the Fairlands Medical Centre when she was attacked on Wednesday night.

Officers searched the area with dogs after the attack but were not able to find the suspect.

The woman suffered cuts and bruises and was "shaken up", police said.

Det Con Kevin Ford said the offender approached the elderly woman from behind at about 2100 BST.

He appealed to anyone who saw the incident, which he described as a "nasty attack", to contact the force.
