Detectives investigating a sex attack on a young girl at a leisure centre in Horley have released a CCTV image.

Surrey Police said the girl was approached as she played with a friend inside Horley Anderson Sports Centre, in Thornton Close, on 6 June.

Officers said the suspect had left the centre on foot after the attack, walking across the playing field.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Sgt Paul Burrill said the sports centre had been busy at the time.

"We have released this CCTV image in the hope someone may recognise the man pictured," Det Sgt Burrill said.

"The child was subjected to a traumatic experience and we are doing everything we can to catch the person responsible."

He said high-visibility patrols were being carried out in the area after the incident, which happened between 1630 BST and 1715 BST.

A statement issued by Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL), which runs the centre, said: "GLL can confirm that an incident occurred on 6 June 2011 at Horley Anderson Leisure Centre.

"The police were immediately notified and are currently investigating. We are therefore unable to comment further at this stage."
