Surrey doormen to seize fake ID cards in police crackdown

Doormen in Woking pubs and clubs have been asked by police to seize fake ID in a crackdown on underage drinking.

Surrey Police said the use of fake ID bought on the internet or borrowed from older siblings or friends by some young people was causing problems.

Officers have asked door staff to send the seized documents to them.

Police said they will invite the rightful owner and the person caught using the ID into a police station where they will be given advice.

Woking Licensing Officer Rob Smith said it was illegal to use fake or borrowed ID and the maximum penalty was £5,000 and 10 years imprisonment.
