Cash box stolen in security van raid in Walton

Thieves stole a cash box after grabbing a security guard in his 60s while he was making a delivery in Surrey.

Police said the robbery happened outside NatWest in High Street, Walton, at about 1425 BST on Thursday.

The robbers grabbed the box and fled the scene on foot, then made their getaway in a waiting estate car being driven by a third gang member.

Det Insp Jake Nuttall said the security guard was very shaken by the "distressing" experience.

Cash box empty

The getaway car, a blue Mercedes, was parked in Winchester Road and was driven away down Ashley Park Road.

The empty cash box, which contained £25,000, was later found in Ashley Rise.

Det Insp Nuttall appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"I would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle used by the suspects, which had a registration number which is believed to have started with EM53," he said.

"The vehicle would have been travelling at high speed following the incident."
