Brockham barn fire treated as 'arson'

The cause of fire in a Surrey barn on Monday is being treated as suspicious, Surrey Police has said.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service was called at 22:45 BST to Strood Green Farm near Brockham.

About 20 firefighters fought the blaze in which 400 bales of straw went up in flames, before it was brought under control on Tuesday morning.

Following an investigation by a dedicated fire investigator, the incident is being treated as arson.

The fire is believed to have been started shortly after 22:00 BST on Monday.

Det Con Leigh Wall said: "We have carried out house to house enquiries, but I would urge anyone else who was in the Wellhouse Lane area on Monday night and recalls seeing anyone behaving suspiciously to get in touch immediately.

"Any information, however small it may seem, could be just what we need to identify the person responsible and ensure they are brought to justice."
