Surrey Police launch new number for non-urgent calls

A new telephone number for non-emergency calls in Surrey is being introduced by the police.

The 101 number is part of a national drive to reduce the pressure on the 999 emergency service.

The contact number is being introduced across the country over the next 12 months and is being launched in Surrey on Thursday.

Surrey Police said it received about 362 calls a day but only about 19% require an emergency response.
