A Surrey man who nearly died when his car veered off the road and hit a tree is taking part in a walk to raise money for the charity that saved his life.

Darren Cooper, of Woking, was airlifted to Kings College Hospital by Surrey Air Ambulance after suffering a fractured skull in the accident.

The 28-year-old plans to take part in the 10-mile North Downs Walk on Saturday as he seeks to raiseĀ£25,000.

Mr Cooper said he was "humbled" by the charity, which is funded by donations.
