Reigate Priory Park vandals cause £2,500 damage

Vandals have caused damage of about £2,500 to a park after ripping up nine benches, uprooting two bay trees and pulling a sundial from its base.

Reigate Council said the vandalism took place overnight on Friday and Saturday in Priory Park, Reigate.

In the same weekend, benches were vandalised in the nearby Churchfields bowling green.

Councillor Adam De Save said repairs were under way. Surrey Police have appealed for information.

He said: "This mindless vandalism has caused a great deal of disturbance in the park and bowling green."

He said staff had secured the sundial and put the trees back in place, and the benches were being repaired.
