Man attempts to rob post office in Windlesham, Surrey
An armed man wearing a balaclava attempted to rob a post office in a Surrey village, police have said.
Officers said the man had entered the post office in Updown Hill, Windlesham, at about 09:40 GMT, carrying what appeared to be a handgun.
He demanded staff hand over money but fled empty-handed when an employee activated the alarm.
Surrey Police said officers would step up patrols in the "small and close-knit community".
Insp James Norbury said: "I understand that local residents will be shocked that this has happened on their doorstep."
