Armed carjack attempt on a Mercedes fails in Staines

Two men unsuccessfully attempted a carjacking in Stanwell Moor armed with a handgun.

The victim was parked in a black Mercedes on Thursday, in Hithermoor Road, between 15:00 and 16:00 GMT when he was approached by two men riding a small, dark Vespa scooter.

One of the men pointed a gun at the driver, ordering him to hand over his keys. He refused and drove off.

The men followed for a short while but gave up and drove off, police said.

They are described as white, casually dressed and one was wearing a black crash helmet.

Det Con Chris Ewan, of Staines CID, said: "We are working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and will do everything possible to catch the offenders and bring them to justice.

"Thankfully this type of crime is extremely rare and is certainly not the sort of thing we see every day here in Surrey."
