A3 body named as Woking pensioner Dhanraj Gurung

A pensioner whose body was found on a busy dual carriageway in Surrey has been identified as 76-year-old Dhanraj Gurung from Woking.

Mr Gurung's body was hit by a number of vehicles on the A3 near Ripley on 1 December.

Emergency services were alerted by motorists on the northbound carriageway at about 19:35 GMT.

Surrey Police said it was not treating Mr Gurung's death as suspicious. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

The body was found by members of the public on the road just south of the BP service station at Ripley.

The A3 was shut from Burnt Common to Ripley while police investigated the incident. It reopened just after 03:30 GMT on Friday.
