Thousands arrive at Guildford nightclub for party

About 2,000 people gathered outside a Surrey nightclub on Monday after details of a party were published on a social networking website.

The partygoers were queuing outside the Casino club in Guildford when police were called to deal with a fight.

Surrey Police said 800 people had been expected and the large numbers had raised concern for public safety.

A 23-year-old man from Farnham was arrested after a man was left with injuries to his face and nose.

Police also worked with fire crews to establish the number of people inside the club and helped ambulance crews who were struggling to get through the crowds.

Ch Insp Goodridge said: "The sheer number of people who turned up in Guildford last night made it extremely challenging but we always expect the town centre to be busier in the run up to Christmas and I think officers coped well with the situation."
