Warning over emergency wards in Surrey

Health chiefs in Surrey have urged people with coughs and colds not to visit accident and emergency.

Pippa Hart, the director of nursing at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals, said the emergency wards were busiest at this time of year.

She said: "There are people who come because they feel mildly unwell, have a cough, cold, a minor cut or other everyday ailments.

"They could be getting the right care faster somewhere more appropriate."
