Retailers 'show confidence' in Woking town centre

Top retailers are showing confidence by moving into Woking's revamped town centre, the leader of the borough council says.

Wolsey Place Shopping Centre has been redeveloped and expanded and agreements have been made with quality retailers, John Kingsbury said.

He said Pret A Manger was opening a shop, JD Sports was expanding and Cafe Rouge was taking a restaurant unit.

The "swift agreements" had shown Woking appealed to retailers, he added.

Mr Kingsbury said: "There is also a high level of interest in the final retail unit within the Wolsey Place Shopping Centre extension with two offers currently under review."

The Wolsey Place development also includes a larger and modernised library.

Woking Borough Council said the town centre attracted more than 15 million visitors each year and investment was set to continue to deliver a more attractive shopping destination.
