RSPCA Charity in Surrey seeks new home for dozens of pets

An animal shelter in Surrey has seen the number of people willing to give a new home to its abandoned animals drop by two-thirds.

The RSPCA in South Godstone found homes for 24 cats and dogs during December compared to 66 over the same period last year.

Centre manager Darren Parish said he believed the economic downturn had been a major factor.

He said: "Things are biting hard for everyone."
