Man arrested over Sunbury bus stop sex attack on girl

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl at a Surrey bus stop.

The teenager was attacked by a man who had engaged her in a conversation at the junction of Beechwood Avenue and Vicarage Road in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Detectives said she managed to push the man and then run from the bus stop and alert police.

Surrey Police said a 49-year-old man from Sunbury had been released on police bail until 6 January.

The force has appealed for witnesses to the attack which took place at about 18:30 GMT on 16 December.

Det Con Tracey Heneghan said: "This was a serious incident where a young girl has been indecently assaulted in a public place.

"Fortunately the victim was not harmed during the incident but this was clearly a very upsetting experience for her to be put through.

"I am particularly keen to trace two people who were waiting at the bus stop with the victim when the assault took place as I believe they may be able to provide vital information to assist with this ongoing investigation."
