New Haw bridge crash lorry driver arrested

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after his vehicle hit a railway bridge.

Surrey Police said the accident, on the A318 Byfleet Road at New Haw on Monday afternoon, involved a lorry from Romania, which damaged the bridge.

The road was closed for more than two-and-a-half hours while emergency services were at the scene, causing severe traffic delays in the area.

Commuter trains in the Weybridge and New Haw area were also affected.

No-one was injured in the accident.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
