A murder inquiry has begun after a man's body was found at a house in Surrey.

Surrey Police said they believe the victim was 69-year-old Winston Fernandez. He was discovered at the property in Longdown Lane North, Epsom.

Officers forced entry to the house on Monday, after concerns were raised by a member of the public, and found the man dead in a bedroom.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Fernandez died of multiple injuries.

Supt Alan Sharp, of Surrey Police, said: "Although formal identification of the body has not yet taken place, we strongly believe the man is Mr Fernandez who had lived in the area for some time and is well known to local people.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who has had contact with Mr Fernandez this year and are appealing to anyone who can help establish the circumstances surrounding his death to contact officers."

A force spokesman said Mr Fernandez had lived alone at the property and his family had been informed of the death.
