Ashford man sprayed during cash robbery

A Surrey man was sprayed in the face with an unknown liquid during a robbery in which a bag containing thousands of pounds was stolen.

The man was walking down Convent Road in Ashford shortly after 10.00 GMT on Monday when he was approached from behind by two men.

One of them grabbed his bag and when he turned round a liquid was sprayed in his face, temporarily blinding him.

He then dropped his backpack and ran from the scene, Surrey Police said.

The man was taken to hospital but was found not to have suffered any injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
