Woking man assaulted breaking up fight

A 42-year-old man who tried to break up a fight in a Surrey town centre was attacked and knocked unconscious when the brawlers turned on him.

Police said the man had a suspected broken cheekbone and wrist and multiple cuts and bruises to his face.

The victim, from Woking, intervened in a large fight which started outside a fast food outlet and moved to the area outside the town's railway station.

The attackers followed him from the scene and kicked his head and face.

'Busy place'

The attack took place between 03:00 GMT and 03:17 GMT on Sunday.

Det Con Pete Osborn said: "This was a serious assault on a man who was trying to intervene to break up an altercation he came across as he was making his way home.

"Woking is a busy place at this time of night when the bars and clubs are shutting up there are people waiting for taxis, getting takeaways and generally milling around the area.

"I am urging anyone with any information about this GBH to contact officers at Surrey Police."
