Award-winning red canaries stolen from Lingfield

Nearly 30 distinctive award-winning birds have been stolen from a property in Surrey.

The red canaries were taken between 19:30 BST on Sunday and 08:00 on Monday when thieves broke into a shed at the property in the Lingfield Common area.

The 28 or 29 stolen birds had been reared by their owner.

Surrey Police said: "This is an appalling crime which has left an elderly gentleman very upset at the loss of the birds."

Police are asking anyone who has any information on the stolen birds to contact them.
