Two tied up in cash raid at Caterham shop

Two members of staff were threatened and tied up in a cash raid at a sports shop in Surrey.

Police said the aggravated burglary took place between 18:00 BST and 18:30 BST on Sunday at the store in Church Walk, Caterham.

"This was a frightening ordeal for the two members of staff, but fortunately no one was injured," said Det Con Kerry Akehurst.

The two robbers left the scene on foot and got into a blue van parked nearby.

Boiler suits

Officers later found the vehicle abandoned in Stuart Road, Warlingham.

The thieves were wearing blue boiler suits and black balaclavas.

Both were described as white. One was about 5ft 9in tall, stocky and in his late 40s or early 50s. The other was about 5ft 10in.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said it was too early to say how much cash had been stolen.

"I am appealing to anyone who has information on this incident or the events surrounding it to contact officers as a matter of urgency," said Ms Akehurst.
