Youths held over Surrey air gun shooting

Two teenagers have been arrested after people were shot at with suspected air weapons in Surrey.

A 47-year-old man from Camberley was shot in the back and side of the head, suffering minor injuries, in Virginia Water on Sunday.

Officers later arrested two 17-year-old boys in Egham and Staines.

The pair, who were arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm in a public place, were bailed pending further inquiries until 31 May.

'Mindless attacks'

Police said a van had been driven along the A30 London Road in Virginia Water at about 14:10 BST and near the Wentworth Estate at about 14:45 BST.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the vehicle.

Det Con Chris Ewan said: "These mindless attacks on members of the public in Runnymede are concerning and will not be tolerated by Surrey Police.

"I cannot stress enough how dangerous it is to fire BB guns or any other type of air weapon in a public place."

Anyone with information or who saw the attackers or the van has been asked to contact police.
