London 2012: Olympic teams to begin training in Surrey

The first of 12 international Olympic and Paralympic teams are due to arrive in Surrey to begin their training for London 2012.

In the lead up to the Games the teams will be using the facilities at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

The Philippines swimming team will be the first to arrive and will begin their training at the park on Saturday.

The site includes a 50m (164ft) pool, eight outdoor tennis courts and two new floodlit artificial grass pitches.

Other teams using the park to train for the Games include the US triathlon team, the Chinese synchronised swimmers and the Singapore Olympic team.

Elsewhere in Surrey, 1,400 Olympic athletes will be staying in student accommodation on campus at the Royal Holloway University in Egham.

During the Games, they will travel by coach to the rowing and sprint canoeing events at Eton Dorney on the Thames.
