Barn blaze at Farnham farm destroys 800 tonnes of hay
A barn containing 800 tonnes of hay has gone up in flames in Surrey, costing the farmer an estimated £100,000 plus the value of the building.
Matt Luard, who owns Potts Farm in Runwick Lane, Farnham, said the "fairly major" blaze had undone a lot of hard work and would affect his supplies.
He said hay production was already down this year because of the poor summer.
Surrey Fire and Rescue said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire on Sunday afternoon.
A spokesman said four engines were called to the 13m x 40m (42ft x 130ft) barn at 15:30 BST and one engine remained on site on Monday morning.
He said once the area was secured, investigators would try to uncover the cause.
