Cranleigh buildings damaged in failed ram-raid

A bank and a house were damaged by two men who used a digger in an attempt to steal a cash machine.

The men drove a digger into a bank in Cranleigh and then reversed it into a wall adjoining a house during a further attempt, Surrey Police said.

They left the digger still running at the scene after the attempt proved unsuccessful on Friday, police said.

Det Con Andrew Skoglund said the digger was stolen from the Godalming area and was driven to the bank.

The bank and a parade of buildings were surveyed for structural damage after the incident in the High Street.

Anyone who saw the incident or saw the digger being driven to the town centre is urged to contact Surrey Police.
