Smallfield shop burglaries 'could be linked'

A shop in Surrey has been burgled for the second time in a month and detectives are investigating whether the two raids are linked.

Intruders were heard in the Co-op in Redehall Road, Smallfield, in the early hours, officers said.

Police went to the scene at about 00:30 GMT but the offenders had already left, taking cigarettes and cash.

Det Con Audrey Cumiskey said it was thought the burglars got into the shop through a back door.

She said the shop had been targeted exactly a month ago and officers were working with staff to try to prevent the store being targeted in the future.

Police added that it was not yet known how much cash and cigarettes had been taken.
