Basingstoke Canal rescue man remains in hospital

A man who was rescued from a canal in Surrey by passers-by is still being treated in hospital.

The man, who has not been named by police, was pulled from the Basingstoke Canal, in the St John's area of Woking, on 24 May.

He was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey where his condition was described as being "critical".

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said he was currently in a stable condition but did not give any further information.
