Van fire closes four lanes of M25 in Surrey

Fire in van on M25 The driver of the van managed to get out safely and was not injured

Motorists heading through Surrey on the anti-clockwise M25 faced severe delays earlier after all four lanes had to be closed to deal with a vehicle fire.

Firefighters were sent to the motorway between junctions nine for Leatherhead and eight for Reigate at 15:40 BST.

The cab of a van was on fire but the driver had managed to get out safely.

The Highways Agency said lanes three and four were reopened to traffic about an hour later, with the remaining two completely reopened by 18:10 BST.
