New operating theatres open at East Surrey Hospital

The first patients will be wheeled into East Surrey Hospital's multimillion-pound operating theatres on Monday.

The new facilities mark the completion of phase one of a £14.5m project at the hospital in Redhill.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust said the four theatres would provide "a much better pre and post-operative experience" for patients.

Work on phase two will start in January when the existing six theatres will be upgraded and refurbished.

The new theatres include high-definition video screens, built-in ceiling-mounted equipment, and an enlarged recovery area.
