Bagshot rape: 16-year-old boy arrested

A second person has been arrested by police investigating the rape of a woman who was walking along a footpath through a wooded area in Surrey.

The 16-year-old boy was held on Sunday night and is in police custody.

The attack happened as the woman, who is in her 40s, walked between Esher Road and the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot at about 14:40 BST on Friday.

A 19-year-old man who arrested on Saturday afternoon has been released without charge.

'Terrifying experience'

A Surrey Police spokesman said the woman had been approached on the footpath by a man aged between 16 and 19 and physically attacked, before being raped.

She screamed for help and the attacker fled.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Rachel Bacon, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "This was a brazen offence which took place in broad daylight and was a terrifying experience for the victim.

"She has understandably been left extremely traumatised and is currently being supported by specialist officers."
