Part of M25 in Surrey shuts after six-vehicle crash

Part of the M25 in Surrey was shut in both directions for several hours after a crash involving six vehicles.

Two lorries, three cars and a van were involved in the crash, between junction 9 at Leatherhead and junction 8 at Reigate, at about 08:10 BST.

Both carriageways of the M25 were closed to allow emergency services to attend the scene but all the lanes were reopened at about 13:50 BST.

Two people were taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London.

Surrey Police said a man in his 30s, who had been driving a Toyota Yaris, had been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being cut free by firefighters.

A van driver was taken to hospital.

The force is appealing for witnesses.
