Taxi driver arrested after Woking pedestrian dies

A taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a pedestrian was run over in Woking.

Surrey Police said the road crash happened on Saturday evening in Woodham Lane.

Officers went to the scene and found the taxi and driver but the pedestrian, a 20-year-old man, was discovered at the other end of the road.

Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's next-of-kin have been informed, a police spokeswoman said.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said the pedestrian, who has not yet been named, was thought to have walked from the town centre along the A320 to the Six Crossroads roundabout, and then down Woodham Lane.

Anyone who saw him is urged to contact police.

The arrested man, who is also in his 20s, has been released on bail until 8 January.
