Police have released CCTV footage of a ram raid at a specialist car showroom in which a classic Ford Escort Mexico was stolen.

The footage, released on YouTube, shows the £120,000 blue car attached by chains to a Land Rover Defender on Tuesday at 21:20 GMT.

It is then dragged out of the showroom back through the glass front of the Trackspeed Classic showroom in Portsmouth Road, Ripley.

The car has the number plate DAD 422K.

Police have appealed for information.

Det Sgt Adam Tatton said: "The footage released demonstrates the audacity of this crime and how it was clearly meticulously planned.

"I am hoping anyone who has any information which could help with the investigation will be mindful to contact officers as soon as possible and help us piece together exactly what has happened to this distinctive vehicle."

A Land Rover Defender was later discovered burnt out on Shere Road, West Horsley.

Police are making enquiries to confirm whether it is the same one.
