Ex-Surrey police officer Salim Ismail cleared of rape
A police officer has been found not guilty of rape and attempted rape.
Salim Ismail, 52, of Valley View Close, Keighley in West Yorkshire, served as a police constable in Surrey between 1993 and 2002 before joining West Yorkshire Police.
The jury at Guildford Crown Court was unable to reach a verdict on two charges of indecent assault.
The Crown Prosecution Service has been given seven days to decide whether to proceed with a retrial.
Mr Ismail had been facing charges of rape, attempted rape and two sexual assaults on one female victim in Surrey.
Det Supt Oz Khan from West Yorkshire Police said: "We are aware of the decision of the court in relation to this officer.
"The officer remains on restricted duties and this will now be reviewed."
