A pedestrian who may have witnessed a car crashing into a railway bridge while being chased by a police car has been urged to come forward.

On Sunday a black Volvo failed to stop for police and a pursuit began, ending when the car collided with a wall.

Debris fell from the bridge, resulting in the line below being closed. Two people got out of the car and ran away.

Surrey Police said a pedestrian was believed to have been on the bridge when the crash happened at 08:40 BST.

PC Neil Middlebrook said: "This was a serious incident which caused considerable local disruption in Frimley on Sunday morning.

"I am particularly keen to speak to a pedestrian who we believe was walking over the bridge above the railway line at the time of the collision.

"That person has yet to get in touch with us but I would urge them to do so as the information they may be able to provide could prove vital to this ongoing investigation."

A 21-year-old man, from Frimley, was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail until 1 June.

A 27-year-old man, who was also arrested and from Frimley, was released with no further action taken.
