Term start delayed for new Billingshurst Primary School

Children at a Sussex school will have an extra few days' holiday after building work delays meant the school will not open on time.

Term had been due to start on Wednesday at the newly-formed Billingshurst Primary School in Upper Station Road.

Council officials said children would not be able to return before Monday 6 September because of health and safety concerns while work was continuing.

Parents have been advised to check the council website on Friday.

The new school in Billingshurst, which is formed of the merged junior and infant schools, caters for 630 boys and girls aged four to 11.

A message on the West Sussex County Council website read: "Due to unforeseen delay with the building work, unfortunately Billingshurst Primary School will not open until Monday 6th September.

"West Sussex County Council and the school are working together to ensure that the school will open at 8.40am on Monday but for confirmation and reassurance please check the West Sussex Grid for Learning on Friday 3rd.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the health and safety of the children must be our primary concern."
