Driving alert follows torrential rain in Sussex

Motorists in Sussex are being urged to take extra care following recent torrential downpours.

A woman had to be freed by firefighters when her car careered into a hedge after hitting a large puddle in Ditchling Road, Brighton on Thursday.

Sussex Police said she was not seriously injured in the accident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Please adjust your driving to the conditions and slow down before you find it's too late to do so."

He added: "Some of the showers are particularly heavy and localised and are creating large puddles or even flash flooding right across some roads."

The Met Office issued a severe weather warning of heavy rain in the South East on Thursday afternoon.
