Man killed in fire at Chichester flats

A man has been killed in a fire at a block of flats in Chichester.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the three-storey building in Bradshaw Road at 0630 BST.

Residents in surrounding properties were evacuated and have been housed by Hyde Martlett Housing Association.

Fire investigators have been at the scene to establish what caused the fire. There are no reports of any other injuries.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who saw smoke and flames coming from a first-floor window.

The victim was found on the floor of the flat and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A fire service spokesman said arson was not suspected at this stage.
