Forty firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a packaging factory at an industrial estate in West Sussex.

Eight fire crews were sent just after 0900 GMT to the Manor Royal Estate, in Faraday Road, in Crawley.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) said they expected to continue to tackle the blaze at the two-storey building "for much of the night".

One nearby building was evacuated because of the smoke and people have been asked to keep windows shut.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "The fire is still in progress and firefighters expect to remain on scene for much of the night.

"The factory has been badly damaged by the fire but West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been working closely with managers and staff of Alexir Packaging to implement an emergency recovery plan."

She added: "The cordon around the firefighting operation has now been reduced and all roads have now been reopened."
