Man arrested over cyclist attack on driver in Hove

A man has been arrested by Sussex detectives investigating a serious assault on a man by a cyclist in Hove.

The 35-year old local man was arrested in a street in Hove, and is being questioned on suspicion of assault.

The victim, 52, from Hove, suffered serious head injuries on Sunday after opening his car door in Portland Road as three cyclists passed. He remains in a stable but critical condition.

Police believe the driver may have caused a group of cyclists to swerve.

A 36-year-old man was arrested after handing himself into police on Tuesday and later released without charge.

The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and later transferred to Hurstwood Park, in Haywards Heath.
