A section of a trail in East Sussex used by cyclists and walkers is to close while work gets under way to replace a sewer pipe.

Southern Water said the Old Loom Mill section of the Cuckoo Trail, between Polegate and Hailsham, would be closed from Monday while work is carried out.

The pipe burst in October leading to serious pollution of Shinewater Lake in Polegate.

The water company said the trail would be closed for up to four months.

Project manager Keith Jeffery said: "We know the closure will be inconvenient to some people, but we have to carry out this essential work for the long-term protection of the area."
