Dogs dragged to deaths in Sussex by unaware driver

Two dogs have died after they were temporarily secured to the back of a vehicle which was then driven away by the owner unaware that they were there.

The Rottweilers were seen being trailed behind a silver 4x4 vehicle in the Pound Hill area of Crawley on Saturday afternoon, Sussex Police said.

It is believed they had been tied to the vehicle by the owner's wife.

One dog was found dead in the road and the other had to be destroyed due to its injuries.

It is believed that the couple will not face any criminal charges over the deaths

Insp Zahid Khan, of Sussex Police, said: "This is a very tragic and distressing accident for all concerned.

"Police attended and the RSPCA were notified.

"Sussex Police will not be investigating the incident."
