Passenger in Brighton fatal accident identified

A 28-year-old passenger who died in an accident in Brighton when a car hit a tree has been identified.

Nicholas Messenger, from Old Kent Road, south London, died in the accident near the Ocean Rooms in Grand Parade. He was one of four men in the BMW involved.

His family said in a statement: "Nicky was a wonderful man, a fantastic father and a brilliant friend and he will be sadly missed forever."

The car driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The 40-year-old man, who was also held on suspicion of dangerous driving, has been bailed until 5 April pending further inquiries.

Two other passengers, aged 24 and 28, were also treated in hospital for their injuries.
