An elderly couple have been found dead at their home in Bexhill.

The couple, aged in their late 70s, were discovered by neighbours in Collington Rise at 1000 GMT.

Sussex Police said the man appeared to have taken his own life, and the body of the woman was found in the kitchen having suffered a serious head injury.

"We are at the early stages of investigating the deaths of this man and woman," said Det Ch Insp Trevor Bowles.

"There appears to be no involvement of a third party in this tragic incident."

Post-mortem examinations will be carried out on the couple, who have not been formally identified.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
