Brightling Park table sells for £216,000 at auction
A historic carved table which was in a country house in East Sussex for more than 250 years has been sold for £216,000 at auction.
The carved, marble-topped George II side table was commissioned in about 1747 for the drawing room at Brightling Park, near Robertsbridge.
It is believed to have been designed by cabinet-maker William Hallett.
It was sold at Bonhams auctioneers in London, where it had attracted a pre-sale estimate of £40,000-£60,000.
